 Barbara is Carter's wife. She once had an affair with Jackie Gleason, which traumatized their son, Patrick (see below). She was also briefly married to Ted Turner.
Both Carter and Barbara Pewterschmidt have an addiction to sleeping pills and alcohol. They have an open marriage since Carter only married Barbara for the money.
Barbara and Peter are sexually attracted to each other, as Barbara claims that Carter no longer even looks her in the back of the head. The two almost make out in "Peter and Bill's Bogus Journey" as a deal between Lois and Peter, but the latter quickly reconsiders, not wanting to leave Lois.
